Wave of Change
Wave of Change 4' x 7'
‘Wave of Change’ is my response to the despair that sometimes immobilizes me. The Ocean and the whole terrestrial planet is being ravaged on all fronts. It is a war of the cruelest type whose victory is our demise. Shortsightedness, greed, power struggles, and apathy seem forces too big to overcome.
So what, I ask myself in the dead of night, while I pick up endless beach trash, while I work, eat, play, can anyone do?
What is the point?
But this defeatist mindset is of no use to anyone. It does not accomplish anything, and there is much to be accomplished.
Recently, a wave of articles has found their way to me that offer great hope and prove that despair, while real, can be overcome. Change is happening and we can all be a part of it!
French ocean adventurer, Yvan Bourgnon designed and created a giant catamaran that scoops up plastic waste in the ocean and converts in into fuel.
Michelin is converting single use plastic bottles (PET) into their tires and plans to be 100% sustainable by 2050
Plastic, oil, and radioactive material eating mushrooms are being being studied and implemented in exploratory cleanup projects.
Incredible strong and resilient building materials are being manufactured from earth, hemp, bacteria!, mushrooms, and landfill plastics
Furniture manufacturers are creating lines made entirely from landfill plastic and Styrofoam, bi product wood and and paper pulp (and much much more)
it is becoming more mainstream to ditch traditional polluting dish and washing machine detergents for biodegradable alternatives- my favorite washing machine detergent ditches the plastic bottles all together for pure sheets of soap.
These are all huge strides forward created by minds that have climbed out of from their despair- or apathy, to forge an innovative sustainable path forward.
A WAVE OF CHANGE is upon us. Lets all ride it into a brighter future!
