Prickly 39.5" x 45"
‘Prickly’ began its life as a piece of plastic recovered from the The Gut at the very end of Hull. I ventured out with my family after the worst of the season’s first Nor’Easter passed to see the flooding and damage in what has become the town’s unofficial spectator sport. But we were the only crazies who left their cars to gather trash along the rocky shore of the most swiftly moving deep channel in Boston Harbor. Among the debris recovered was a piece of pale green weathered plastic- a part of a fish bin, I think. It just screamed cactus to me and so I went with it, channeling my memories of the incredible succulents from my time in San Antonio.
‘Prickly’ is painted on chip board that was being thrown away at Lowe’s. I couldn’t believe my luck when the guys told me to take the random cut pieces. They couldn’t believe their luck that they didn’t have to haul them out the the dumpster! Other construction debris includes: plaster, paint, screws. And there is a whole lot of beach trash on this one!
Beach debris includes:
Plastic fish bin
lobster trap
lobster trap tags
treated plywood
fiberglass
buoy
beach ball
flip flop
fishing rope
fishing net
boat seat
upholstery
bait bag
plastic bag
boat seat foam
‘Prickly’ is bright and dynamic yet neutral enough to complement a large range of interior styling.
